Etymology of aspect.png

aspect = ad + spect

ad-: to, at

spect: derived from Latin "specere", meaning "look"

So aspect means:

  1. The direction of looking to.
    • In abstract things, "one direction" means "one side, or one part of something". So if the direction is about abstract thing, aspect means "a particular part or feature of a situation, an idea, a problem, etc".
    • If the direction is about physical object, this means "the direction in which a building, a window, or a piece of land, etc. faces".
  2. The thing of looking at.
    • The thing that is looked at must be the appearance of something.
