Assistance

From Boercade

assistance = ad + sist + ance

ad-: to, towards, at

sist: derived from Latin "sistere", meaning "stand"

-ance: the action of doing something

So assistance means:

The action of standing at (one's side).

If B stands at A's side, B must be an helper of A. So assistance means "the action of helping someone".
