prospection = pro + spect + ion

pro-: forward

spect: derived from Latin "specere", meaning "look"

-ion: the action of doing something

So prospection means:

The action of looking forward to something.

  1. If the action is to look forward to something that will happen, this means "the action of forecasting the future of something".
  2. If the action is to look forward to mineral resources, this means "the action of looking for mineral resources".
